SSC CGL 2026 Exam Pattern, Selection Process, and Syllabus: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially released the SSC CGL 2026 Notification for recruitment to various Group B and Group C posts under different Ministries and Departments of the Government of India. SSC CGL 2026 will be conducted in two stages, known as Tier I and Tier II. Candidates preparing for the exam should clearly understand the latest exam pattern, marking scheme, sectional timing, and subject-wise weightage before starting preparation.

SSC CGL 2026 Important Features of New Exam Pattern

  • Tier-II Paper-I is compulsory for all posts.
  • Sectional timing is applicable in both Tier-I and Tier-II.
  • Computer Knowledge Test and DEST are part of Tier-II Paper-I.
  • DEST is qualifying in nature but mandatory.
  • Final merit will mainly depend on Tier-II performance.

The Commission will use normalization of marks for exams conducted in multiple shifts.

SSC CGL 2026 Tier-I Exam Pattern

Tier-I is compulsory for all candidates and consists of objective type multiple choice questions. The SSC has introduced the sectional timing for the CGL exam as given in the table below.

Important Points of Tier-I

  • Tier-I questions will be available in both English and Hindi, except for the English Comprehension section.
  • There will be a negative marking of 0.50 marks for every wrong answer.
  • The exam will have sectional timing.

SSC CGL 2026 Tier-II Exam Pattern

Tier-II is the most important stage because the final merit will mainly depend on Tier-II performance. Paper-I is compulsory for all candidates, while Paper-II and Paper-III are only for specific posts.

Paper I will be conducted in two sessions on the same day.

Mathematical Abilities: Questions are usually asked from Percentage, Profit & Loss, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Time & Work, Ratio & Proportion, Simplification, Data Interpretation, Average, and Number System.

Reasoning & General Intelligence: Important topics include Coding-Decoding, Analogy, Classification, Blood Relation, Series, Syllogism, Matrix, and Venn Diagram.

General Awareness: This section covers Current Affairs, History, Geography, Economy, Polity, General Science, and Static GK.

English Language & Comprehension: Questions are asked from Grammar, Vocabulary, Synonyms, Antonyms, Error Detection, Reading Comprehension, Sentence Improvement, and Cloze Test.

Computer Knowledge Test: This section includes Computer Basics, MS Office, Internet, Networking, Hardware, Software, and Cyber Security.
