The Government of India has announced significant recruitment benefits for Ex-Agniveers in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Assam Rifles. According to a Press Information Bureau (PIB) release issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on 21 July 2026, Ex-Agniveers will now receive 50% reservation in the recruitment of Constable (General Duty) in CAPFs and Rifleman in Assam Rifles.
The announcement is aimed at providing better career opportunities to Agniveers after completing their tenure under the Agnipath Scheme. Along with reservation, the government has also introduced age relaxation and exemption from several stages of the recruitment process.

Major Benefits for Ex-Agniveers
The Ministry of Home Affairs has introduced the following provisions for Ex-Agniveers:
1. 50% Reservation in Recruitment
A new category of Ex-Agniveer has been created for recruitment to the posts of Constable (General Duty) in Central Armed Police Forces and Rifleman in Assam Rifles. Under this category, 50% of the vacancies will be reserved for eligible Ex-Agniveers.
2. Upper Age Relaxation
Eligible Ex-Agniveers will receive:
- 3 years relaxation in the prescribed upper age limit.
- 5 years age relaxation beyond the prescribed upper age limit for candidates belonging to the first batch of Ex-Agniveers.
3. Exemption from Recruitment Tests
Ex-Agniveers will also receive exemption from the following recruitment stages:
- Physical Standards Test (PST)
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
- Written Examination
These exemptions are intended to recognize the military training already received by Agniveers during their service.

Dedicated Ex-Agniveer Wing Established
The Ministry of Home Affairs has also established a dedicated Ex-Agniveer Wing to coordinate the future career progression and rehabilitation of Ex-Agniveers after their service period. This wing will oversee matters related to employment opportunities and related initiatives.
First Batch Yet to Complete Service
The ministry clarified that the first batch of Agniveers has not yet completed its term of engagement. Therefore, these benefits have been announced in advance to facilitate their transition into civilian employment after completing service.
