If you’re a landholding farmer in India, PM Kisan Yojana puts ₹6,000 straight into your bank account every year — no paperwork, middlemen, or delays if your details are in order. Here’s everything you need to know, from eligibility to the exact steps to apply.

What is PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana?

PM-KISAN is an income-support scheme for farmers, launched to help landholding farmer families cover routine agricultural and household expenses. It started as a scheme for small and marginal farmers (owning up to 2 hectares) but was expanded in June 2019 to cover all landholding farmer families, regardless of land size, subject to a set of exclusions (covered below).

Under the scheme, an eligible family — defined as husband, wife, and minor children — receives ₹6,000 every year, split into three equal installments of ₹2,000 each, credited once every four months:

  • 1st installment: April – July
  • 2nd installment: August – November
  • 3rd installment: December – March

The money is sent directly to the farmer’s Aadhaar-linked bank account via DBT, so there’s no need to visit any office to collect it once you’re registered and verified.

PM Kisan Eligibility Criteria (पात्रता)

You may be eligible for PM Kisan Yojana if:

  • You belong to a landholding farmer family (husband, wife, and minor children counted as one unit)
  • Cultivable land is registered in your name (or your family’s name) as per official state/revenue land records
  • You are an Indian citizen with valid residential proof
  • You have a bank account that can be linked/seeded with your Aadhaar number

Note: only one registration per family is allowed, no matter how the land is divided among family members.

Who is NOT Eligible (Exclusion List)

A family becomes ineligible for PM Kisan if any one member falls into any of these categories:

  • Institutional landholders
  • Former or current holders of constitutional posts
  • Former or current Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, Mayors, or Zilla Panchayat Chairpersons
  • Serving or retired government employees and officers (Group D / Class IV / Multi-Tasking Staff employees are still eligible)
  • Retired pensioners drawing a monthly pension of ₹10,000 or more (excluding Group D/MTS pensioners)
  • Anyone who paid income tax in the last assessment year
  • Registered professionals actively practicing — doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants, and architects

Also, since the scheme requires land ownership in official records, tenant farmers and sharecroppers without land in their own name are not eligible.

Documents Required (जरूरी दस्तावेज)

Keep these ready before you start your application:

  1. Aadhaar Card (mandatory for the applicant; required for all family members too)
  2. Land ownership documents/ revenue records (Khasra, Khatauni, or Record of Rights)
  3. Bank passbook with account number and IFSC code (Aadhaar-seeded)
  4. Citizenship proof (voter ID, passport, or birth certificate)
  5. Recent passport-size photograph

How to Apply for PM Kisan Yojana Online (आवेदन कैसे करें)

You can register yourself directly — no agent needed. Here’s the step-by-step process:

  1. Go to the official portal: pmkisan.gov.in
  2. Under “Farmers Corner,” click “New Farmer Registration.”
  3. Choose Rural Farmer Registration or Urban Farmer Registration, based on where your land is located.
  4. Enter your Aadhaar number, select your state, fill in the captcha, and click Search.
  5. Fill in your personal details, bank account information, and landholding details exactly as they appear in your Aadhaar and land records.
  6. Upload the required documents and submit the form.
  7. Your application is then verified by the Village Level Entrepreneur/ state government authorities. Once approved, you’ll start receiving installments.

Don’t have internet access or Aadhaar-linked details handy? You can also register offline at:

  • Your nearest Common Service Centre (CSC)
  • Your local Block/Tehsil/District Agriculture Office

e-KYC — Why It’s Mandatory

Even after successful registration, e-KYC is compulsory for every PM Kisan beneficiary. If it’s incomplete, your installment gets held back — even if you’re otherwise fully eligible. You have two options:

  • OTP-based e-KYC — free, done directly on the pmkisan.gov.in portal
  • Biometric e-KYC — available at any CSC for a small fee

One more thing farmers often miss: Aadhaar-bank linking is not the same as NPCI seeding. Your PM Kisan payment only lands in the account that’s mapped in the NPCI mapper. If your installment isn’t coming through despite a “linked” Aadhaar, visit your bank branch and fill the DBT/NPCI Aadhaar Seeding form.

PM Kisan Installment Dates 2026

  • 23rd Installment: ₹2,000, released in June 2026
  • 24th Installment: Expected around October 2026 (as per the Aug–Nov payment cycle; exact date is announced by the government closer to release — bookmark this page for the update)

How to Check PM Kisan Status / Beneficiary List

To check whether your installment has been credited:

  1. Visit pmkisan.gov.in
  2. Under Farmers Corner, click “Know Your Status” or “Beneficiary Status.”
  3. Enter your Aadhaar number, mobile number, or bank account number.
  4. Your registration and payment status will be displayed on the screen.

To check the full village-wise beneficiary list instead: Farmers Corner → Beneficiary List → select State, District, Sub-District, Block, and Village → Get Report.

PM Kisan beneficiaries can also apply for a Kisan Credit Card, giving access to short-term agricultural loans of up to ₹3 lakh without collateral, at a lower interest rate, with flexible repayment options.
