This year, the Foundation has increased the total number of scholarships to 13,440, making it one of the largest privately funded scholarship programmes for students from economically weaker sections in India. What Is the LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme?

The LIC Golden Jubilee Foundation was established on 20 October 2006 and works toward the advancement of education, medical relief, and other objects of general public utility. Since inception, the Foundation has sanctioned crores of rupees across education, health, and community welfare initiatives.

The Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme is the Foundation’s flagship education initiative. It awards merit-based scholarships to students from low-income families who have secured admission into recognized colleges, universities, or Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across India.

Types of Scholarship and Eligibility Criteria

The scheme is divided into two categories.

1. General Scholarship (After Class 12th / Diploma)

To be eligible for the General Scholarship, a candidate must:

• Have passed Class XII (or an equivalent exam) with at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in the academic year 2023-24, 2024-25, or 2025-26.
• Have taken admission in the academic year 2026-27 into the first year of a degree course such as Medicine (MBBS, BAMS, BHMS, BDS), Engineering (BE, BTech, BArch), Graduation in any discipline, Integrated Courses, Diploma courses, Vocational Courses through government-recognized institutes, or ITI courses.
• Belong to a family whose parents’ or guardian’s combined annual income from all sources does not exceed ₹4,50,000.

2. Special Scholarship (After Class 10th)

To be eligible for the Special Scholarship, a candidate must:

• Have passed Class X (or an equivalent exam) with at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA in the academic year 2023-24, 2024-25, or 2025-26.
• Have taken admission in the academic year 2026-27 into the first year of Intermediate/10+2, a Vocational course, a Diploma course, or an ITI course through a government-recognized institution.
• Belong to a family whose parents’ or guardian’s combined annual income from all sources does not exceed ₹4,50,000.

Who Is Not Eligible

• Students pursuing post-graduation courses (integrated courses that combine graduation and post-graduation are an exception and remain eligible for the full duration).
• Students enrolled through correspondence, part-time (evening/night), or open universities.
• Students pursuing self-study courses such as CA, CS, or ICMAI (Cost Accountant).
• Students already receiving a scholarship from another trust or private institution. (Government scholarship holders, at the state or central level, remain eligible.)
• As a rule, only one student per family can receive the scholarship, though this is relaxed to allow a second candidate if she is a female applicant.

Scholarship Amount 2026

The amount awarded depends on the course being pursued, and is credited in two equal instalments each year directly to the student’s bank account via NEFT.

The scholarship continues for the entire duration of the course (excluding any internship or stipendiary period), as long as the student maintains the minimum academic performance required for renewal each year. For 2026, the first instalment becomes due on 1 September 2026 and the second on 1 February 2027, with the same cycle repeating in subsequent years.

Number of Scholarships and Selection Process

LIC operates through 112 Divisional Offices across India, and each Division selects:

• 80 candidates for the General Scholarship (40 boys + 40 girls)
• 40 candidates for the Special Scholarship (20 boys + 20 girls)

That works out to a total of 13,440 scholarships nationwide (8,960 General + 4,480 Special). Gender-wise slots can be adjusted if there is a shortage of applicants in one category.

Selection happens in two stages:

1. Preliminary shortlisting — Applications are automatically routed to the relevant Divisional Office based on the applicant’s PIN code, and candidates are ranked strictly by academic merit within the income limit.
2. Final verification — Shortlisted candidates are contacted to submit physical documents for verification of marks and income. Selected candidates are informed by email, and a waiting list is maintained for divisions where all seats are filled but eligible applicants remain.

In case two candidates are tied on marks, preference goes first to the one from a lower-income family, and if that also ties, LIC conducts a financial needs assessment.

• Admission proof / bonafide certificate for the 2026-27 academic year
• Income certificate issued by a competent Revenue Authority (Tehsildar, SDM, District Magistrate, etc.), showing gross annual family income for the preceding financial year
• Aadhaar card and PAN card
• Bank account details with IFSC code and a cancelled cheque (the account must be active, not dormant)

Conditions to Continue Receiving the Scholarship

Once selected, a student must maintain certain academic standards each year to keep receiving the scholarship:

• Medical and Engineering students must secure at least 55% marks (or equivalent SGPA/CGPA) and pass all subjects each semester.
• Graduation (Arts/Science/Commerce) and other General Scholarship students must secure at least 50% marks and pass all subjects each semester.
• Special Scholarship holders must secure at least 50% marks with a pass in all subjects in the first-year examination.
• Clearing a subject with grace marks, or passing a failed subject in a later semester, makes a student ineligible for that year’s instalment — except in cases of genuine, verifiable hardship.
• Regular attendance, as defined by the institution, is compulsory.
